Working at Lost Art Press for (almost exactly) a year now, I’ve become conditioned to “firsts.” Firsts like my first chair build, my first blog post, my first associate editing binder, etc., etc., etc.
All of these firsts have made me more comfortable with putting myself out into the world. Or so I thought.
About a month ago, Chris came to me with an idea for a new how-to video that would be different from what we more often do – in that he wouldn’t star in it.
The idea for the video was this: Bridgid (of Dinkles Workshop) and I would each build a chair from the book “Build A Chair From Bulls%$t” (coming soon from Chris) on video. This video will be a free download and used essentially as promotion for Chris’s new book.
Bridgid and I share a goal of making chairmaking as accessible as possible. Because of that, this video will be aimed toward beginner woodworkers. In the video, on top of building the “Bulls%$t” chair, we’ll show what to look for when buying lumber from your local home center for chair building, how to read wood grain and more.
If you’re not familiar with Bridgid’s work via “Dinkle’s Woodshop,” you should be. Bridgid has been making furniture in her basement for years and sharing her knowledge along the way. Her goofy and transparent video editing style makes light of complex woodworking techniques. I’m excited for Bridgid’s visual magic to shine in our how-to video.
We plan to begin filming Monday next week and hope to build the chair in two days.
